This worthy video interview with Blizzard Entertainment Co-Founder Allen Adham has been flying under the radar. In a chat with Lester Chen of A16Z Games, Adham describes his youthful attraction to video games, the initial formation of Blizzard Entertainment, his role during the creation of World of Warcraft, and much more.
There are many fascinating bits of info to take in here but did you know that World of Warcraft‘s locally-synced World Clock (if it’s dawn where you are, it’s dawn in the game) was inspired by Animal Crossing? Adham comes across as warm and wise and it’s great to see him drop these nuggets of knowledge. Have a look & listen.
Allen Adham Quote:
“Leaving right before World of Warcraft shipped was the biggest mistake of my life. Not just financially, but creatively. A year later, I found myself recharged and really missed games and the creative process. We all understand now, for the long run, work-life-balance is a thing…sort of.”
